Joy grew up in a mission-focused church and participated on her first short-term project in high school where she fell in love with Latin American culture and the Spanish language. She worked alongside veteran missionaries in Panama while leading a short-term project in high school. During her second project in Panama, she committed to join the work that God was doing there. After much prayer and searching, God led Joy to NMSI where she affiliated in Fall 2007.

From April 2008 through April 2011, Joy served in Western Panama. Her ministry projects were focused on the local church and a local university. Women’s and youth ministry were the areas that she worked in most extensively with the Iglesia Cristiana de Panama (Panama Christian Church). She also supported the churches in the Ngobe indigenous region through providing monthly Sunday School material as well as helping facilitate short-term projects and yearly conferences. At the local agricultural university she taught English for 5 semesters and connected with a campus ministry that had been recently begun. Joy supported, encouraged and participated with Comunidad de Estudiantes Cristianos (Community of Christian Students).

In February 2011, she connected with IMPACTO Latino through a week long survey trip. During her time there she celebrated the 4 year anniversary with Jubilee Christian Church and participated in cell groups and English classes. Joy was excited about the ministry that is going on in Pachuca and formally joined the team later that year. She is focused the areas of youth and young adult ministry as well as English teaching with the Friendship Institute.
